Who are we?

Lucky 13 has been a Clintonville staple for over 15 years, and we've built a reputation based on high, consistent quality and service.

We started as a commission salon, and during COVID transitioned to being a salon collective for independent stylists. Our specialty is helping clients to work with and make the most of their natural texture, and fully express their authentic selves.

We hate the term "booth rental," because we are more than that. When you join our collective, you are joining a group of career hairstylists who support each other, offer help and suggestions when needed, and refer clients to each other. You're not working alone in a box.

Our goal is to find like-minded stylists who share our high professional standards, so that we can all relax and enjoy our work. Our culture is an ecosystem that is affected by everyone in it, and we will carefully maintain our positive environment.

Each stylist has access to their station and the salon at agreed-upon times, and is responsible for all aspects of their own business. This means that you set your own services and pricing, are responsible for your own scheduling and client communication, and all money from services rendered goes directly to you.

  • --at LEAST five years of experience behind the chair.

--inclusion for clients of all identities. (We offer gender-neutral pricing, are a queer/trans-safe space, have a diverse range of clients, and affirm that Black Lives Matter)

--comfort and experience working with all types of hair textures and curl patterns.

--high professional standards, and the self-motivation to maintain them.

--the willingness to help with day-to-day tasks to keep the salon running smoothly. (ie keeping up with laundry, cleaning up after yourself immediately when you're done using a space)

--the desire to share a work space with other experienced, mature artists in a collaborative, no-drama environment.

  • --someone who prefers a boisterous, high-energy work environment. (Nothing wrong with that, we're just pretty chill.)

--someone who is in the beginning stages of their career, or who needs structure and guidance in order to advance their skills. (We share tips and offer advice to each other all the time, but are not currently in a position to formally mentor or educate someone.)

  • --a spacious station (We are not crammed together.)

--an online booking account with Vagaro, including automatic client e-mail and text reminders

--personal voicemail account & call forwarding from the main salon phone number

    --website listing and referrals

--salon deep cleaning service 1-2 times a week (each stylist is responsible for their own station and day-to-day cleaning)

--shared towels and capes with on-site laundry

    --backbar shampoos and conditioners

--client amenities including water, tea, coffee, and snacks

    --cleaning and disinfection supplies

--storage space for your tools, color, personal items, etc.

--shared color bowls, brushes, combs, clips

--access to top-quality virtual continuing education
